Christian Custer

Owner // Lead Commercial Project Manager

“I am Christian Custer, owner and operator of Owner-Built. From a young age, I didn’t spend much time inside as I was busy outside building things. And as an avid 4-Her, we always built a wood shop project with our Uncle Mike, who is an excellent craftsman. I would go on to work for a neighbor who was also a cabinet maker, cleaning his shop and helping him install cabinets. As I was preparing to go to college, I was set to study Mechanical Engineering, but as I learned of Operations Management, it seemed to be a better fit, and it was. While in school, I had the opportunity to work for the premier general contractor in town, which would shape my future more than I realized at the time. I had to quit working for that GC as I had another opportunity to study international business in Sevilla, Spain for a semester, which was not something I could turn down.

Upon graduation I packed up to head to North Carolina, where I worked in manufacturing for 2 years, at which point I met my now wife Leslie back home and decided it was time to come back. I didn’t know where I would work or live but eventually found a job working for a tech startup. I spent the next 5 years there, learning a lot about business. I enjoyed the work but couldn’t shake the urge to get up from behind the computer and go work with my hands. So Leslie said to me, “Would you want to do construction again?”. I replied, “Yes, actually, if there was a good opportunity”. And Owner-Built was that opportunity.

I so enjoy transforming our client’s homes into their dream space and am proud to work alongside Leslie, Becky and our network of subcontractors and suppliers. I am excited for the future of Owner-Built!

Outside of Owner-Built, I enjoy spending time with family, traveling to new places and to see friends and our families that extend to the edges the US and beyond. I love pheasant hunting with our dog Fletcher and tinkering in my shop when I can.

Becky Loebertmann

Interior Designer // Lead Project Manager

Becky graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. Over the next 30 plus years, she has worked for various locally owned firms honing skills as a designer and project manager in the Home Furnishings, Construction and Lighting Industries.

Her recent years, including a 13-year relationship with Owner-Built, have been devoted to residential remodel projects where she assists either with design and development of the project or the project management of the construction process or both. Lighting design is also a personal passion, and her 9 years at Southern Lights have allowed her to stay up with the latest trends and technologies in this fast changing industry.

Becky enjoys taking a team approach to every project. She offers a well-rounded, thoughtful plan as she and the clients work together thru design, bidding and selection, and finally the construction process, all while assisting them in staying with their desired budget. Becky’s ultimate goal is to create a client experience that is enjoyable, efficient and creative; culminating with a finished project that reflects the client’s personal style as well as providing a high functioning space.

When she’s not on the jobsite, Becky enjoys weekend road trips exploring Minnesota and the surrounding states, golfing, and spending time with her family.
